Monterey Regional Airport New Terminal Facility
Monterey Regional Airport New Terminal Facility
In collaboration with HOK Architecture, RANA is completing landscape architectural design for a new terminal at Monterey Regional Airport. Bridging complexity and beauty, this project aims to blend safety, sustainability, and innovation with the region’s unique natural and cultural identity. Designed to be a welcoming gateway to Monterey, the terminal will seamlessly integrate with the local landscape, reflecting the area's agricultural heritage, coastal beauty, and biodiversity.
Central to this project is a commitment to sustainability, with the terminal aiming for LEED Platinum certification. This prestigious designation underscores the airport’s dedication to environmental stewardship, ensuring that the facility meets the highest standards for energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable materials. The landscape architecture will play a key role in achieving this certification, with designs that incorporate native vegetation, sustainable stormwater management, and habitat preservation, all of which enhance the ecological balance.
The terminal's design prioritizes harmony with the surrounding environment, finding inspiration in Monterey’s natural features, such as dunes, forests, and ocean views. The landscape architecture will emphasize continuity between the interior and exterior, creating a cohesive experience that resonates with Monterey’s sense of place.
This facility will embody the best of Monterey’s land and sea while offering travelers an experience deeply rooted in the region’s identity. The new terminal at Monterey Regional Airport is more than just an airport; it’s a celebration of the local landscape, culture, and community, built with a strong commitment to sustainability.
